DEAR HUNTER // 12 MONTHS OLD

"She took my spatula!"

"I got it back..."

"She took it again, so I'm not cooperating."

The time has come and you're finally a whole year old. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to keep doing monthly updates until you're two, but I think I'm just going to try and blog more. I want to start really writing down all of our memories or capturing them on video. This go round with the pictures you were not so pleased. Is it possible the terrible twos are a year early? God forbid I take a spatula away from you so I can get some cute pictures. I've learned a lot of parenting is just about providing the right distractions! HAHA! So beside from the couple cute ones, I've also shared the "behind the scenes" ones. Just so everyone can know what to look forward to as a parent! But really, when you throw your tantrums I just have to laugh sometimes because it's kind of cute.

So much has happened in the last month. We went on a road trip to Utah where you met your Grandpa Roger's side of the family, you were SUCH a trooper. There were some times when I wanted to pull my hair out, but overall you did really well for being in a car seat for that long. You met Santa, and you were not a fan. At all. We celebrated your first Christmas! Boy, were you spoiled. We're going to have to buy a new house for all of your toys. You moved into your own bedroom, and you love it! This whole time you've been sleeping in the master bedroom while we slept in the guest bedroom. I don't know how that worked itself out, but you finally have your own room and your mommy and daddy get their room back. It's been awesome. You got your first haircut. You did such a good job! You sat so still. Until she got to the back of your neck, because you are super ticklish so you would raise your shoulders. It made you look like such a big boy! We celebrated your first birthday party and it was a blast! You got a nice big wagon, some clothes, a train, pillow pets, a piggy bank, a piano, and we got a zoo membership for the year! And, we also got a puppy! It's been a crazy month and I can already tell 2016 is going to be one for the books.

You have started getting your molars in and it's been a fun time with those... You also had/have a virus that we thought could be an ear infection. You were pulling at your right ear a lot, but turned out to just be a combination of a really sore throat (blisters and all, poor baby) and teething. You're so lovey and know how to give hugs. Every time I get you up from bed you give me a nice big hug, it's so sweet! You love to walk around with your walkers and you're getting pretty close to walking I think! You've taken some steps but I don't think you're brave enough to do it full time. It will be soon though! I just know it.

You've gotten a lot better at naps it seems. Sometimes they last for TWO WHOLE HOURS. It's definitely a shock and quite a relief to be honest. I think you've realized that sleep isn't too bad. We don't do much while you're sleeping so there isn't anything to miss out on. I'm having troubles teaching you how to drink from a sippy cup. You haven't really grasped the idea of sucking on things, you just bite the top of them expecting water to come out. So the ones you do have that do that work great, until you decide to push them down and cause all the liquid to come out on to water surface you have it on!

We went through a phase where you were terrified(?) to take a bath. I'm not sure what it was, but it lasted about a week and I had to get in with you every time until you were comfortable with it again. That has since passed and you enjoy baths again. You aren't saying any new words really, but you do love to talk in your baby talk. It's quite fun to listen to if I do say so myself. You're always wanting to eat whatever we're eating. I think you're going through a growth spurt (lord, help us now) because you have completely changed from last month and are wanting bottles a lot now. You will drink them all and want more sometimes. Just a hungry, growing boy I guess! At this point you are wearing 18 month shirts and 2T pants! When we went to the doctor when you were sick you were 26 pounds and 30 1/2" long! Geez, big boy. Feel free to slow down at any time.

LOVES // Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, wagon rides, animals, cars, walker, and bath time.

HATES // getting diaper changes sometimes (WHY!?), getting things taken away from you, and being told no.

This passed year has hands down been the hardest, most frustrating, exhausting, yet rewarding and BEST year of my life. You have changed our lives so much and I can't imagine how I lived before without you. Hunter Hampton, you are the apple of my eye and the center of my whole universe. Never forget it, lovebug. You are my world.
