LINCOLN'S LABOR AND DELIVERY

The last 8 or so weeks of my pregnancy I dealt with high blood pressure. We had to do lots of monitoring to make sure baby boy wasn't stressed. Besides this, I had a pretty ideal pregnancy. I never had any morning sickness, didn't have a ton of heartburn, and I didn't hurt that much. I felt so lucky to be pregnant that even if I had these, I wouldn't have complained much. I just really enjoyed my pregnancy and would have stayed pregnant for months after if I needed to. Once week 39 rolled around my doctor's advised I be induced because of the high blood pressure.

I was nervous to give birth here in Nevada. We live in a small town and our hospital is over priced and doesn't have the greatest reviews. I really liked my doctors (husband and wife team), but they were going to be out of town for my induction and a doctor from Texas was going to be the doctor for my delivery. At the same time though, I was so at peace when the time rolled around. I honestly felt like God was just telling me to relax, everything was going to be okay. So I did, and let me tell you, I had an amazing experience. All of my nurses and the doctor were absolutely wonderful. I had a better labor and delivery experience here than I did in Boise. But, let's rewind a little bit.

We got to hospital super early in the morning and they started my induction not long after I had checked in. I was given pain medicine through my IV for quite awhile because I was a little nervous to get the epidural again. Labor was long but unlike with Hunter, I successfully got an epidural, THE FIRST TIME IT WAS GIVEN. The anesthesiologist was incredible. He told me that not having it done successfully was not an option and he was going to do it. He talked me through it and was great. The dreaded shakes started soon after but I was able to relax and sleep. I don't know what it is about the epidural though, every time it makes me sick multiple times.

Just like with Hunter's labor I hovered around a 6 for quite some time. When I finally got to a 10 I pushed for three hours with little to no progress. He had too big of a head. I was exhausted, bawling my eyes out, ready to be done. Tom and I discussed a c-section and decided that it was my best option at this point. If you've never had one before, it's such a, uh, unique experience? I'll be honest - it was awful. You feel everything. It doesn't hurt, but there is lots of pressure and tugging and it makes my skin crawl thinking about it. I had endured yet another 40+ hour labor, and my uterus was shot.

Our gorgeous little Lincoln Edward Hampton, with a head full of hair, entered our world at 11:43 pm (1 minute before Hunter!) on October 11, 2018. He weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces (exact same as Hunter!) and 21 1/2 inches long (exactly one inch longer than big bro!). They looked so much alike, besides the hair. He was all I had dreamed of and more. Another little boy to love. It took me another hour to get stitched up (twice as long as normal) because I had such a long labor before hand and pushing for three hours. My second anesthesiologist (again, another amazing doctor. I can't sing enough praises for these two men that made my labor and delivery experience so much better than I anticipated) put me fully out because I could not stand the feeling of being stitched up. Plus, it was starting to get painful.

I woke up after they were done and they took me back to my room where we stayed for a little bit before being moved to another room. Lincoln was the sweetest little thing. He was (and still is) such a good little baby. He took to nursing right away and slept peacefully in the bassinet. I had vowed not to bed share with him right away like I did Hunter. It took almost 3 years to get him out of our bed. Lincoln's such an independent sleeper now.

Before we left the hospital he had a little bit of jaundice. He got put under the lights before we were able to go home. I stayed in the hospital for five entire days. It honestly wasn't that bad besides being a little lonely. Hunter was staying with my parents and Tom had to go back to work not long after. It gave Lincoln and I a lot of time to bond though. Recovery for a c-section, though? Not. Fun. It was grueling to get up and take my first steps again. Walking to the bathroom was painful and felt like a mile away. When we were finally able to go home on Sunday I set myself and Lincoln up in the living room. Lincoln, Hunter, and myself camped out there for quite some time since it was the easiest place for me to prop myself up since it still hurt to lay down flat. And, the swelling was insane in my feet and legs. I don't quite remember it being that bad with Hunter. My experience with both of my children wasn't ideal, but they were both unique and similar in their own ways. I would do them both a thousand times over for my two boys though. Welcome to the family Linc, I don't know how we lived before you. You are so loved, my little bear.
