Nesting // Blogmas Day Eight

As we are getting down to the end of my pregnancy (I'm 35 weeks!) I'm falling more into my nesting phase. Today I spent all day cleaning and wanting to get stuff ready for baby. My baby shower was on Saturday so I washed all the baby clothes I got. We have our crib set up, but still need to get our dresser put together. The room that will be the nursery was our spare bedroom and we still have to take down the bed that is in there, and then redo a bookshelf. But man oh man, am I over being pregnant. Between the constant heartburn, not being able to tie my shoes, my hips aching so bad I could cry in the middle of the night, and not being able to do anything without either causing braxton hicks or an asthma attack.

ANYWAY.
I still have quite a few items I need to get before he makes his big arrival.
- boppy pillow
- changing pad
- diaper caddy
- swing
- pack and play
- stroller

That's what I can think of at the top of my head. Pregnancy brain is a real thing, my friends. I forget so much all the time. I'm getting really excited for him to be here. I can't wait to see what he looks like. I already know he's going to be so much like his daddy. He's always moving around.

Look forward to some more baby posts including what's in my hospital bag, what's in his diaper bag, and a nursery 'tour.' Kind of a random post tonight, but I'm just excited to be a mommy!

Baby Shower // Blogmas Day Six

Today was my baby shower. The theme was woodland which is what are nursery theme is. Woodland creatures to be specific; foxes, owls, deer, etc. I love it. It was an amazing day, and it went really well. Although I'm pretty sleepy. I got to my mom's around 10:45 and made the owl cupcakes and help set everything up. We were non-stop getting everything ready until people started showing up. It was a great turn out. We had a chili bar per my request, it's been one of my biggest cravings my entire pregnancy! We had a red and white chili with all the toppings you could think of. We had s'more bites, owl cupcakes, 'babies in a blanket', veggie cups, crackers with pepper jelly topped cream cheese, and of course the chili and corn bread. For party favors my mother-in-law and sister-in-law made the cutest hot cocoa mix in a mason jar. It was an amazing day to see everyone and to celebrate the little man that will be here so soon!

This is one of my best friend's little babe, Chris. Is he not the cutest?!

Things They Never Tell You About Pregnancy

As this pregnancy goes on I'm learning more and more about what pregnancy is really like. If you've been pregnant before, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Unless you had a smooth sailing pregnancy, to which I silently hate you for. Here are the horrible (sometimes embarrassing) things about pregnancy nobody ever told me.

Please excuse horrible quality image above. Taken with my mom's iPhone. Boo.

N A U S E A | Thanks, kid. Although this one people are honest about, I didn't know that morning sickness didn't mean just morning sickness. It also means afternoon and night, sometimes just a week straight of pukey-ness. My little man hated fruit in my first trimester, and it's all I wanted. I have to say though, throwing up strawberries was probably the most pleasant of all.

C O N G E S T I O N | I literally thought I was sick for a month straight because I couldn't breathe out of my nose. And, it always happened when I would be in bed, ready to sleep. It was horrible. There was really no way around it either. I just had to suck it up, and deal with cotton mouth all night long.

S W E A T I N G | That glow they tell you about? Yeah, no. That's just sweat. I don't know how many times my boss has caught me standing under the air conditioner just trying not to over heat and sweat through my clothes. Thank goodness he's understanding. I am not sure how women go through their last part of pregnancy during the heat of the summer, because I could barely stand. Even now, when it's upper 70's, I still have a hard time staying cool.

C O N S T I P A T I O N | Sorry to say this, but you'll be praying to poop. You'll be on day three no numero dos, begging your body to just let it go. (queue Frozen now...) It's painful to say the least. Especially because some anti-nausea pills and prenatal vitamins make it worse. To add to that, gas pains are the absolute worst.

H I P - P A I N | I barely sleep at night now. I can't lay on either side for too long without being in major pain. Excruciating pain, I tell you. Luckily, my doctor told me that sleeping on my back is fine, just to sleep where I'm comfortable. But, since pregnancy is so glamorous and all, nothing stays comfortable for long which leads to getting a horrible nights sleep.

H E A R T - B U R N | Every evening around five o'clock, I'll get this lovely pain that feels as though I'm going to vomit acid right then and there. It's horrible. And, it happens every. single. day, ladies. It lasts until around 8 o'clock. One time, I had it for 12 hours straight. Just because I have really great luck too, nothing gets rid of it. Thanks a lot, tums.

P E E I N G | All the time. I get up probably six times during the night to go. While I'm at work, I am trying to stay hydrated by drinking water all the time, which thus leads to even more bathroom breaks. It doesn't seem to help that little man loves to hug said bladder.

S W E L L I N G | My job requires me to be on my feet the majority of the day. So, like 9 hours. By the end of the day, my feet are swollen, numb, but also simultaneously tingling. Like, that horrible tingling feeling after your foot falls asleep. YEAH. It sure is awesome.

B A C K - P A I N | We recently went to my very first college football game, and we had to leave a little bit early because I was in so much pain sitting there. Especially because there was no back rests and they squeeze people into the stadium with barely any room to wiggle your toes. There is also a constant pain in my mid-back to where I can't even lay on my left side in the night because it makes the pain unbearable.

L I G H T N I N G - C R O T C H | Never heard of this one? Yeah, me either. And, then it happened. In all it's painful glory. It literally feels exactly as it sounds, like you just got struck by lightning in the crotch. Don't worry, it's normal. Your baby is just using your poor inside lady bits as batting practice.

S H O R T N E S S - O F - B R E A T H | A really cool thing about pregnancy is that your body is literally doing everything for two people. A really uncool thing? That your body is literally doing everything for two people. That means you're breathing for two, which also makes it especially hard when your babe is taking up some of where your lung space would be. I can't even tie my shoes anymore without feeling like I finished a marathon. (Also to thank for that is my belly.)

So there you have it. I keep swearing to my husband our son will be an only child. Pregnancy, besides all the horrible things that make you feel helpless half the time, is a really neat thing though. Your body is making a little human. All those times you get to see their cute little selves on the ultrasounds, hear their heartbeat thundering away, and feeling and seeing those little kicks in your belly make it all worthwhile.

Little Man or Little Miss?

We are having a little man! A little Hunter Michael. Yesterday we had a gender reveal party with just close family. It turned out really nice. We did cheeseburgers with lots of other food. Everybody couldn't wait to find out what it was. I filled the cupcakes with a blue frosting so you had to bite in to see what it was. I had so many people convinced it was a girl, because that's what Tom and I thought the entire time as well! So it was a shock to most of us! I was stressing so much over the last few days about this party, but it went better than I could have expected. The weather was perfect, everybody that we invited came. We are very excited to meet our little man January 11, 2015!

I definitely failed at getting a lot of pictures, I was just so busy doing things or talking with family. So these will have to do until I get some pictures from my mom who was our camera girl.

First Trimester Must Haves

Can you believe your eyes? Three posts in three days. I'm just as surprised as you are. I promised some pregnancy related posts, and here is the first one! First trimester must haves. The first trimester is the worst, ask any mom. Of course, this is my first pregnancy, but I'll take their word for it. I found out I was pregnant when I was about 5 weeks. I knew I was pregnant before taking the test when I had to run to the bathroom to throw up. I never throw up, so I knew. I had "morning sickness" for about 4 weeks, and I am one of the lucky ones. Morning sickness lasts all day, just so you know, it's a cruel joke to call it that. I was nauseous all day long, throwing up randomly, and always hungry but never wanting to eat. The consistent nausea stopped around 9 weeks for me. At times even recently, I'll just need to throw up. I get it over with, and I'm good to go again. I'm currently 14 weeks, and so that means I'm into my second semester. Here are some of the things that kept me alive the last 14 weeks, and some still continue to do so!

1. What To Expect When You're Expecting; This book has seriously just about everything you need to know about and answers most questions you have. It's something that my mother-in-law suggested and read every pregnancy, and I can see why!

2. Lip Balm; I don't know if it's just been me, but my lips are ridiculously chapped, like out of this world chapped. I can't seem to get them hydrated for the life of me. In order for me to get by, I'm constantly applying lip balm.

3. Prenatal Vitamins; Take them at night! Or else you might get sick to your stomach.

4. Body Pillow; Any kind of body pillow works, seriously. The ones that wrap all around you or just one like this. It makes me so comfy and I snuggle that thing all night long.

5. Ritz Crackers; Most people suggest saltines. I started off with saltines, and if you eat saltines in your soup just trust my word on this and find another cracker. I was up in the middle of the night, starving and nauseous, shoving saltines in my mouth and crying. It's not a pretty picture, and the thought of them makes me queazy. They make your mouth dry, and they aren't the best tasting alone. Trust me, get Ritz or Club or something!

6. Water; Drink lots of water all the time or else you'll find yourself extremely dehydrated out of nowhere and hate yourself. At the beginning I couldn't drink water without it making me want to vomit. If you're in the same position add fresh fruit to your water. The possibilities are endless, and the taste will dramatically change your feelings about staying hydrated.

7. Comfortable Clothes; Shirts, pants, bra. Find stuff that is comfortable. After awhile you'll feel your clothes getting tighter. And let's face it, your boobs are getting bigger and so are your hips. So find comfortable clothes and wear them.

8. Gum; My mouth gets extremely dry, especially when I drink water. I'm not sure why, but this is how I fix it.

So there you go! These are things that have been helping me. If you're a mommy or feeding for two, what were your first trimester must haves?

And Then There Were Three...

That, that right there is why I haven't had any desire to blog lately. It's been a crazy couple of months. We found out I was expecting about 9 weeks ago, and it was a shock! We weren't planning a baby, especially so soon after getting married, but everything happens for a reason. I had mixed emotions in the beginning, I think I"ll dedicate an entire post about that at a later time.

We had our first ultrasound on Thursday, and this little peach was bouncing all over the place. It was hard to get these pictures! I promise baby Hampton isn't wearing a clown nose, no, baby just likes it's hand by it's face. (Anybody else hate referring to them as "it" before you know the sex? Ugh.) I am currently 13 weeks 6 days. Tom is praying for a boy, but in all honesty, I am okay with either, as long as it's healthy. It was so crazy to see it moving around already. It's only 3 inches long, and it's already active! It was an experience like no other, I couldn't stop smiling the whole time. I was so fortunate my mom and husband were both there with me to experience it. This is my mom's first grandbaby, and she's over the moon.

I thought it was time to make the announcement since my family and friends know (including Amber, cyber hugs girl. I wish you lived closer too, so we could have girl days). Be expecting some pregnancy related posts soon!
